You will not reach true righteousness until you give from what you love 3:92. Not the old coat, the leftovers, or the money you will never miss. What you love.
From the Quran
لَنْ تَنَالُوا الْبِرَّ حَتَّىٰ تُنْفِقُوا مِمَّا تُحِبُّونَ
From the Prophet ﷺ
«مَا مِنْ يَوْمٍ يُصْبِحُ الْعِبَادُ فِيهِ إِلاَّ مَلَكَانِ يَنْزِلاَنِ فَيَقُولُ أَحَدُهُمَا اللَّهُمَّ أَعْطِ مُنْفِقًا خَلَفًا»
Seen in the prophets
When his brothers came to Egypt to buy grain, Yusuf quietly told his servants to put the goods they had paid with back into their saddlebags 12:62. They took the grain home, and their payment with it.
Ibn 'Abbas said the Prophet ﷺ was the most generous of people, and most of all in Ramadan: "more generous with good than the free-blowing wind" Bukhari 6.
Jabir said: the Prophet ﷺ was never once asked for something and said "no" Bukhari 6034.
What it is not
Generosity is not throwing money around, and it is not giving to be seen. "Do not tie your hand to your neck, and do not stretch it out completely" 17:29. And "do not cancel your charity with reminders and hurt" 2:264.
Today, in practice
Give something you actually like 3:92.
Give once this week where nobody will ever know.
Pay the worker, the cleaner and the freelancer on time, and a little extra.
Small, practical steps. This is friendly advice, not a ruling.
Your manner for the week
