The Prophet ﷺ said purity is half of faith Muslim 223. Not a footnote to faith: half of it. It starts with water, and it goes all the way to the heart.
From the Quran
إِنَّ اللَّهَ يُحِبُّ التَّوَّابِينَ وَيُحِبُّ الْمُتَطَهِّرِينَ
From the Prophet ﷺ
«الطُّهُورُ شَطْرُ الإِيمَانِ»
Seen in the prophets
Ibrahim and Isma'il were given a task together: "Purify My House for those who walk around it, those who stay there, and those who bow and prostrate" 2:125. Cleaning a place for other people to worship was work for prophets.
In the first days of revelation, one of the very first commands to the Prophet ﷺ was: "And your clothes, purify them" 74:4.
He ﷺ said: if it were not too hard on my people, I would have ordered them to use the siwak before every prayer Bukhari 887.
What it is not
Purity is not looking down on people who are poor, or dusty from work. Allah looks at hearts and deeds Muslim 2564, and on the Last Day only "a sound heart" will help 26:89. Clean hands, and a clean heart.
Today, in practice
Leave the wudu area cleaner than you found it.
Clean your teeth before you pray, and before you meet people Bukhari 887.
Pick up one piece of litter that isn't yours. Removing harm from the road is part of faith Muslim 35.
Small, practical steps. This is friendly advice, not a ruling.
Your manner for the week
