Allah made a promise: "If you are grateful, I will surely give you more" 14:7. And the Prophet ﷺ tied it to people: whoever does not thank people has not thanked Allah Abu Dawud 4811.
From the Quran
وَإِذْ تَأَذَّنَ رَبُّكُمْ لَئِنْ شَكَرْتُمْ لَأَزِيدَنَّكُمْ
From the Prophet ﷺ
«لاَ يَشْكُرُ اللَّهَ مَنْ لاَ يَشْكُرُ النَّاسَ»
Seen in the prophets
Of everything Nuh lived through, Allah chose this to describe him: "He was a truly grateful servant" 17:3.
Allah describes Ibrahim as "grateful for His favours", and then: "He chose him and guided him to a straight path" 16:121.
He ﷺ prayed at night until his feet swelled. Someone said to him: but Allah has forgiven you. He answered: "Should I not be a grateful servant?" Bukhari 4836
What it is not
Gratitude is not only saying alhamdulillah. Allah told the family of Dawud: "Work, O family of Dawud, in gratitude", and added: "few of My servants are truly grateful" 34:13. Shukr is something you do.
Today, in practice
Thank one person today by name, for something specific Abu Dawud 4811.
Before you sleep, name three blessings from the day.
Use one blessing, your time, your skill or your money, for someone else this week.
Small, practical steps. This is friendly advice, not a ruling.
